Let’s work with some vocabulary from the text in step 1. Listen and repeat the vocabulary as many times as you want. Try to memorise it.


Films (UK) / Movies (USA)

People:

  1. actor – performer in movie, used for all genders 
  2. audience – people who watch the movie
  3. cast – the group of actors in a movie or TV show
  4. critic – person who critiques films 
  5. extra – non-speaking actor in a film, often in a crowd
  6. star – leading actor

Things:

  1. plot – the story of a movie
  2. review – a written evaluation
  3. scene – a part of the film in one location
  4. script – dialogue and instructions for actors and crew
  5. sequel – the continuation of a movie or book
  6. set – the scenery and objects
  7. soundtrack – the music that accompanies the film
  8. special effects – artificial effects that look real
  9. subtitles – dialogue displayed on the screen, usually in another language
  10. trailer – short clips of a movie used to advertise it
