Goal

It’s time for your class. Your teacher will guide you through this content so you can make the most of it. Keep this page open during your virtual lesson.

1. Read with your teacher the following words (Pronunciation: /ɔː/ vs /ɒ/).

  • Before – /bɪfɔː/
  • War – /wɔː/
  • Law – /lɔː/
  • Door – /dɔː/
  • Floor – /flɔː/
  • Body – /bɒdi/
  • Job – /dʒɒb/
  • Hospital – /hɒspɪtəl/
  • Stop – /stɒp/
  • Cost – /kɒst/

Read these minimal pairs of words:

/ɔː//ɒ/
CaughtCot
ForksFox
Warswas
/ɔː//ɒ/
ShortShot
WalkWok
BoughtBot
SportSpot

2. What do you remember about writing a letter of complaint?

3. Discuss:

  • Have you ever had a bad experience at a shop, restaurant or any other place? (If not, imagine a really bad experience. For example: you went with your family to a dirty restaurant with really rude waiters)
  • What happened?
  • How did you feel?
  • What did you do about it? Did you write a formal complaint?

4.   Let’s write a complaint email together.

  1. Review each part of a letter (Step 2)
  2. Write at least the first 2 paragraphs together.
  3. Share ideas on REQUESTS and RECOMMENDATIONS that can be included in the letter.
  4. (If you have enough time you can finish the letter together)

Conclusion

We’ve finished the class for today. Do you want to keep practising? Brilliant! You will find some extra practice in the next step. Try to complete the exercises in the next few days.
