Goal
It’s time for your class. Your teacher will guide you through this content so you can make the most of it. Keep this page open during your virtual lesson.
1. Revision of vocabulary and grammar of this lesson.

Practice
with your teacher
2. When was the last time you visited the doctor? Do you remember what happened and what treatment you received? Did you follow the recommended treatment? Why/ Why not?
3. Listen to the dialogue from step 1. What seems to be the problem with the patient? Which treatment does the doctor recommend to the patient?
4. Role play the dialogue from step 1, then swap roles.
Doctor: Good morning Mr Johnson. What can I do for you?
Patient: Well doctor, I’ve had this dry cough for the past couple of days and I think I might have a bit of a fever too.
Doctor: Mmm, let me take your temperature. 38.5 degrees. That is quite high. Have you got any other symptoms?
Patient: Well, I’ve been feeling very tired lately and I’ve got these aches and pains all over my body.
Doctor: And do you have any difficulty breathing?
Patient: Yes, I do tend to get out of breath very quickly. I see.
Doctor: What about your sense of taste and smell?
Patient: Now that you mention it, I think I may have lost those too.
Doctor: I’m afraid it looks like you’ve caught the coronavirus.
Patient: But I always wear my mask when I go out and I regularly wash my hands. And I’ve been respecting all the social distancing rules.
Doctor: Well, we can’t be sure unless you take a test. In any case you’re going to have to self-isolate for the next seven days. In the meantime, I’ll give you a prescription for some paracetamol. You should also drink plenty of fluids. If your condition worsens, you’ll have to call 111. Take care Mr Johnson, and make sure you get your vaccination when the time comes.
Patient: Don’t worry doctor, I will.
5. You are two friends talking. A: Tell B about a problem you’ve been having. B: Ask questions about it and give A advice.
possible problems
- hiccups
- a toothache
- an insect bite/sting
- an argument with a family member
- your new phone isn’t working
- others
6. Talk about things you had to do when you were younger that you don’t have to do now.
Conclusion
We’ve finished the class for today. Do you want to keep practising? Brilliant! You will find some extra practice in the next step. Try to complete the exercises in the next few days.
