Goal

Let’s start the lesson with some reading. You are going to read a short article. You can read it on your own or play the audio and follow along.

Once you have finished, you can go to the next step.

I feel special

My name is June, I am 76 years old, and I live in Newcastle, England. That sounds quite normal, but my life is not really normal. Do you want to know why?

What makes my life special is that every weekend I go trekking with my family. I could say it runs in our veins; I don’t know who started it, but I know my father’s grandfather used to go trekking, and now my little granddaughter loves it too. Everything in our life revolves around this sport. Our diet, our way of dressing, the music we listen to, the friends we have and of course our holidays. Every weekend, we load our four-by-four with all the best trekking gear you can imagine.

At the moment we are spending a month in Nepal. We are doing the Annapurna Circuit. It’s becoming the trip of our lives. The views here are simply breathtaking. We are trekking along with people from many nationalities. Right now we are staying in a little town called Besisahar located 760 m above sea level. We are lodging in a small guest house full of trekking-crazy people. I am enjoying every minute!

Everyone we meet on this trip is always very surprised when they see our family trekking together. It isn’t very common to see a 76-year-old woman trekking with her whole family in this part of the world! That makes me feel special and gives me a sense of pride.
